How can I participate in the weekly liturgies?

Coffee Hour: Held after the 9:00 and 11:00 Sunday Masses. Brew the coffee, set out the doughnuts and juice, and welcome our visitors!  Call Susan Drury at 703-658-0440.

Folk Group: Contemporary music at the 11:00 Mass.  Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings at 7:45 pm in the Rectory.  Call Sonia Faletti at 202-543-6801.

Liturgy Planning: Work with the Pastor and the Liturgy Committee of the Parish Council to plan major liturgies and services.  Call Mary Ann Wyrsch at 202-546-6271.

Readers: Proclaim the Word of God at Mass.  Meet Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm to prepare for the following Sunday.  Call Mary Lynn Stevens at 202-547-2192.

Ushers & Greeters: Welcome parishioners and visitors as they enter church for Mass.  Distribute hymnbooks and bulletins, take up the collection, and assist where needed.  Call Ellen Coughlin at 202-547-5589.

How can I develop my faith?

Centering Prayer: Contemplative prayer that can be practiced alone or with a group.  Meets Mondays at 7:00 pm in the Rectory.  Call Genevieve Lynce at 202-543-0404.

Holy Hour: For all who are interested in spending an hour in prayer. Monday through Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Church. Confessions are available 6:00-6:30; Vespers at 6:40.

School Auction: A fabulous fun evening of dining, dancing, and charity to provide scholarship support to our Interparish School.  This year's event is set for February 14, 2009. Call Danielle St. Germain-Gordon at 202-669-5952.

School Yard Sale:  The best yard sale on the Hill.  Sponsored by the School, held in the Parish Hall and grounds in early spring.

January
March for Life: St. Peter’s provides hospitality to marchers from around the nation who gather in support of the right to life.  Call Suzanne O'Connor at 703-333-5040.

March
A Celebration of Ireland: Special liturgy featuring the music of St. Patrick’s Mass, followed by a lively reception with Irish food and drink, dancing, and singing.  Call Jerry Conlon at 202-546-6195.

Lent
Scripture reflections and Stations of the Cross for the holy season.  In addition, "The Light Is On for You": special evening confessions available. Lent culminates with the Easter Vigil as we welcome new Catholics into the Church.

May Crowning:
Join us for a beautiful and traditional ceremony in our Mary Garden.

June
Parish Feast Day:
We celebrate St. Peter with Mass and a picnic in the garden.

Fall and Winter
We host Wine & Cheese receptions to welcome our new parishioners and a Parish Dinner with delicious food, music, and fun. And on the weekend before Thanksgiving, a Christmas bazaar and flea market. Reconciliation Service:
Prepare yourself for the birth of the Savior.

Christmas Eve: Prelude concert at 11:30 pm, Mass at Midnight, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.  Mass for Children at 5:00 pm. 

How can I help my neighbors?

Bag lunches for the homeless: The local soup kitchen is closed on Sundays, so we make lunches on the 4th Sunday of every month for distribution in a nearby park.  Guidelines for lunches are available in the back of the church.  Call Nancy Hartnagel at 202-547-5589.

Food Bank Collection: Every Sunday.  Our new food bank partner is Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 212 East Capitol Street.  Bring items to Mass and place them in the baskets in the back of church.  Here’s a handy shopping list of basic items:

  • High-protein foods that require little or no preparation; peanut butter, canned tuna and salmon, canned meats and spreads, canned meat dinners in small and family sizes.
  • Soups: canned and dried.
  • One-dish pasta meals in cans or boxes.
  • Coffee, tea bags, creamer, instant coffee/tea, boxed cereals, sugar, dessert mixes.
  • Dried foods: pasta, rice, lentils, beans, oatmeal, grits.
  • Canned fruits, vegetables, sauces, and juices.

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Do you knit?  Join us as we knit shawls for those who are sick and suffering.  Call Mary O’Reilly at 202-543-2898.

How can I help with the upkeep of the church and grounds?
