Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.
St. Peter's group, which follows Trappist Father Thomas Keating’s guide to silent mediation as written in his book, Open Mind, Open Heart, meets Monday nights from 7-8pm in the rectory conference room. Following a period of meditation, the groups between two activities for a series of weeks. One is Lectio Divina, an ancient form of prayer that focuses us in a guided and prayerful reading of a passage from the Bible. The other involves a series of teaching videos by Father. Keating that enrich our understanding of Centering Prayer.
