Sacramental Records
St. Peter’s has sacramental records dating back to 1821.
Although we do not have an archivist on staff, every effort is made to respond to requests for assistance in locating family records. To help in our search, please provide as much information as you can regarding full names, approximate date of birth, death, or marriage. Please note, it may take 3 - 4 weeks to process your request.
If you would like copies of baptismal or other certificates, please enclose a donation of $15 per certificate, made payable to St. Peter’s Church. Donations may also be made online using ParishSoft or GiveButter (indicate sacramental records in the note section).

The following information should help you with your request:
MARRIAGES:
- There are no entries from September 16, 1836 to November 8, 1849. The pastor at the time did not make any entries in the marriage record book.
DEATHS:
- We have no records for 1883, or for 1885 to 1902.
- We have a funeral register covering September 1821 to March 2, 1836; the first burials in the St. Peter’s cemetery were December 13, 1825.
- We have a record of bodies laid in the vault of the cemetery before burial from December 12, 1844 to September 3, 1861. No cause of death or family information is listed.
- The next funeral register we have begins November 10, 1858; all persons in it are listed as being buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Write to1300 Bladensburg Rd NE, Washington DC 20002, 202-399-3000.
We have no records of the closing of St. Peter’s cemetery and the removal of the bodies.

People entitled to purchase a vital record include the registrant, an immediate family member, legal guardian, or legal representative. Birth records become public records 100 years after the date of birth. Death records become public 50 years after the date of death. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, or other relatives who are not immediate family members cannot obtain a birth or death certificate from Vital Records before the record becomes open to the public.

To receive a certified copy of a marriage license, you must provide the full names of the bride and groom, the bride’s maiden name, and the date of the marriage. You must pay a fee by cash or money order. Personal checks are not accepted. You may either come to the Marriage Bureau Branch in person to get a copy or request a copy by mail.
