“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments” (CCC 1213).
This step in our initiation as followers of Christ enables those who receive the sacrament to participate fully as members in the Body of Christ, whether as a child or an adult. By sharing in the sacred Body and Blood of Christ, this unifying food of life nourishes us as we walk the daily path of life.

The Eucharist is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ, and is the “source and summit of the Christian life” (LG 11). Here at St. Peter's, First Communion takes place when a child is in the second grade.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion and perfection of the graces of Baptism. The faithful are fully initiated into the Catholic Church once they have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
Marriage is a beautiful gift from God to the couple and to the whole church. When Scripture talks about God’s relationship with humanity, it does so, more often than not, through the analogy of husband and wife. There can be no doubt that God intended men and women to join together in marriage to cooperate with Him in giving life to others and helping others appreciate all of His gifts.

Confession and Reconciliation -- also called the Sacrament of Penance -- is an experience of the gift of God's boundless mercy.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that “by the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them” (CCC 1514). The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is for anyone who is seriously ill or who is preparing for major surgery. If you or a loved one would like to receive this sacrament, please call the Rectory office at 202.547.1430.
