This step in our initiation as followers of Christ enables those who receive the sacrament to participate fully as members in the Body of Christ, whether as a child or an adult. By sharing in the sacred Body and Blood of Christ, this unifying food of life nourishes us as we walk the daily path of life. For those baptized as infants, this sacrament is received before Confirmation (typically in 2nd grade). For those entering the Church as older children or adults, the ancient practice of receiving the sacrament of Eucharist and Confirmation on the same day is followed.

In the Archdiocese of Washington, children are expected to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation prior to First Eucharist. Children should be enrolled in a Catholic school or a religious education program for two years prior to prepare for the sacraments. Religious education at St. Peter's is offered at weekly Sunday School. To register for Sunday School, please click here. For questions about Sunday School or sacramental preparation for children or adults, please contact our Director of Religious Education, Julie Penndorf at This email address is being protected from spambots.
