Dear parishioners & visitors,
In the hundreds of years before Jesus, in numerous Old Testament scripture, time and time again the people of faith lose sight of God in their lives and go in the wrong direction. When Jesus came into this world, people were continuing to fall into the same trap to lose their way and turn away from God. But Jesus came to tell us that the Kingdom of God is only possible when his disciples, which includes you and me, recognize the amazing gift of our lives and our faith, and then share it with others. To do this, we need to keep focused on the right priorities in our lives. So, how do we do this?
One of the most common things people say to me is they do not pray enough, or their prayer life is lacking. We are called as Catholic Christians to make prayer and our Sacraments the bedrock of our faith. When we lack a prayer life and lack reception of our Sacraments, we can lose sight of what is important and can easily get side-tracked from moving towards God, and we can start to feel lost in this world. A friend of mine returned to church one year ago, after a ten year absence, stressed that every morning he gets down on his knees and prays because that must be his priority to set the day in the right direction.
“Jesus said to the Twelve: ‘Fear No one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known.” We pray so that God reveals to us who we are and who we are meant to be in His plan for us. It is then we can more fully carry out our life as a disciples of Jesus Christ.
Yours in Christ,
Father Dan
