Dear parishioners & visitors,

In Thomas Kempis’ 15th Century works called The Imitation of Christ, he says, “Make room for Christ. When you possess Christ you are rich, for he is sufficient for you.” We know this is true. We believe it. But how true are we in living this out? How often do we allow things of this world to become our possession in place of Christ? The true valuable thing created in this world is us – God’s creation of His beloved children. In the Gospel Jesus speaks to us about the merchant searching for fine pearls and the fishermen seeking to collect fish, possessions of fortune and commerce. But Jesus says that in all things to separate the good from the bad – separate the wicked from the righteous. Jesus asks us, “Do you understand” this? Let us recognize the most valuable possession we have that is Jesus in our lives. Let us “Make room for Christ.” So that, “When you possess Christ you are rich, for he is sufficient for you.” I share this prayer called God Alone Suffices:

I offer you, Lord, my thoughts: to be fixed on You; my words: to have You for their theme; my actions: to reflect my love for You; my sufferings: to be endured for Your greater glory. I want to do what You ask of me: in the way You ask, for as long as You ask, because You ask it. I pray, Lord, that You enlighten my mind, inflame my will, purify my heart, and sanctify my soul. O Mary, Mother of God and my Mother, pray also to Jesus for me. Amen
