Dear parishioners & visitors,

Our readings this Sunday remind us that in receiving God’s mercy and forgiveness, we are called to do the same to our neighbor. As Christians, we know we can seek forgiveness of our sins, forgiveness of our failings, and we can be reconciled to God. In so doing, we can be free of what weighs on our conscience and achieve joy and feeling right with our Lord to lead us in a life as his disciples. But that is only partial joy.

We come to Church to participate together in the Eucharist, the Holy Communion, the ultimate act of sharing that God gave to us in his son. As we acknowledge our spiritual union with Christ in Mass, let us give thanks to God for what we receive through God’s love and mercy. And, then let us take that love and mercy that we receive and show that love and mercy to others by forgiving those who have hurt us. I know sometimes it is hard to forgive. But when we hold on to that hurt or grudge, it weighs us down. We know in our heart and soul, and in our faith, we are called to forgive. If we do, if we mend our ways, or forgive others even if they don’t accept it, then we do feel that weight lifted from us, we feel progress towards ultimate joy in union with God that we all desire.  I share with you this Prayer for Forgiving Others:

Loving God, You call us to forgive as we are forgiven. Soften my heart toward those who have wounded me, releasing any bitterness or resentment. Help me to extend mercy and compassion, just as You have shown me. Amen
