Dear parishioners & visitors,
With our Octoberfest celebration coming up next Saturday, I thought I would share the origin of the celebration, which I didn’t know other than it came from Germany. Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest (German peoples’ festival). It combines a beer festival with a fun fair and is held annually in Munich on the Theresienwiese (a public space with 100 acres) from mid-September to the first Sunday in October. The event draws around seven million visitors each year. Visitors consume over 7.4 million litres of beer. The festival features amusement rides, games, food stalls, and traditional Bavarian dishes. The first Oktoberfest was held on October 12, 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.
I hope you will join us on Saturday, October 17th for our Octoberfest that begins at 6 pm in the parish hall after the 5 pm Mass. It’s always a fun evening of food and fellowship.
Yours in Christ,
Father Dan
